The appearance of each of Kees Barten’s paintings is a result of 100 to 150 different layers of paint. Each individual layer leaves practically no trace on the surface but the multitude of layers creates an exceptional depth of colour. The painting builds itself up, so to speak. Mistakes and errors make it unique and organic, and create the sense of a skin.
